Pierre Gagnaire and Christian Ghion Make Breakfast at Alessi

Pierre Gagnaire is one of France’s Great Chefs. His Pierre Gangnaire restaurant scored 3 Michelin stars, and his Twist restaurant in Las Vegas’ Mandarin Oriental won a Forbes five-star award.
Gagnaire has a touch of poet about him. ”Man needs poetry, tenderness, and things done well. Cuisine is not measured in terms of tradition and modernity. One must read the tenderness of the Chef.”
Christian Ghion is a noted French designer who has previously worked with Gagnaire in restaurants in Tokyo and Dubai. Ghion’s work is in a number of museums, including the Pompidou.

Both Gagnaire and Ghion have a fascination with eggs. To Gagnaire, the egg is “a modest, elementary product; a basic ingredient in cooking. Rich in symbolism and culinary possibilities, it has all the organoleptic qualities essential essential to life. Accompanied by all kinds of sauces, it is ubiquitous on the menu, from appetizers to desserts, in a multitude of different textures and shapes. To Ghion, it is the egg’s shape that fascinates. “It is smooth and slightly wrinkled. Seemingly fragile, its structure gives great resistance to pressure. A valuable food source, eggs reminds one of the elements which affect the essence of things: the matrix, fertilization and the origin of life.
Trio
Together they have produced the ‘Autour de L’oeuf’ collection. Consisting of ‘Trio”, a triple ramekin that allows you to present sauces, complete with a tray on which bread may be served. ’Atomium’ is an egg holder that presents the egg fully and is stackable. ‘Le Nid’ is a small ramekin on a stainless stand that resembles a bird’s nest. A bread basket, ‘Pinpin’ completes the collection.
