Shigeru Ban’s 10-Unit System in Cooper-Hewitt Exhibition
Shigeru Ban’s 10-Unit System for Artek will be on display at the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum in New York through January 9, 2011. The exhibition, entitled National Design Triennial: Why Design Now?, features notable designs addressing human and environmental problems across various fields of design.
The 10-unit system by Shigeru Ban is made from UPM ProFi wood plastic composite. The set of 10 wood composite parts may be assembled to produce various objects such as a chair, table and stool, therefore reducing manufacturing and shipping costs by having an element-based, flat-pack design.
