Kastehelmi Dewdrop Dinnerware by Oiva Toikka for Iittala
The Kastehelmi ‘dewdrop’ dinnerware was first designed in 1964 by Oiva Toikka. Toikka is primarily known for his hugely successful art glass bird collection, initially started through Nuutajaarvi glass in 1972. To design geeks, however, Toikka is known for many other innovative ideas, many of which have garnered him awards, including the Lunning Prize and the Kaj Franck Prize (think heavy-duty Scandinavian design award).

The Kastehelmi resulted from an experiment in hiding seams in pressed glass pieces through the use of small glass droplets.
