Artel’s Glacier Collection, designed by David Wiseman, has recently been accepted into the permanent collection of the Corning Museum of Glass.

The collection includes a massive bowl, vase, and a small (in comparison) double-old fashioned glass that can also be used as a votive.

David Wiseman is an artist who specializes in capturing the fleeting essence of nature. In the Glacier Collection, irregular hand-carved facets evoke the craggy ice floes in the sea. Wiseman recently did installations for Christian Dior, and was selected for the Cooper Hewitt’s Design Triennial in 2006.

Artel Glass is one of the finest glass manufacturers today. Focusing on keeping the Czech glass traditions alive, the firm places emphasis on design and technique, incorporating blowing, etching, flashing, cameo, and carving (among others) in their works. Each piece is handmade to order in the Czech Republic.
