Trapeze LED Desk Lamp by Peter Stathis Re-Introduced
Peter Stathis is one of those American designers that continues to put out well-conceived and well-designed product. Recently he developed a series of task lamps for Joby that were fun, innovative, and functional. Unfortunately Joby, a company that really specialized in accessories for cameras, ipods and the like, was bought out right at the introduction point and the product never shipped. The new owners didn’t want to take the company into lighting, I suppose. (to read that original post click here.)
Word has come down that the Trapeze Lamps will finally be available to the public. Time to rejoice.
Available in 5 colors and 2 sizes, the Trapeze lamps have 102 LEDs and are adjustable in all sorts of ways.
I played with some prototypes of this lamp during the first introduction. This lamp is a real winner.
Everything about the Trapeze design screams friendly. The colors are bright, the lamp is warm, there is a wide range of motion of the lamp head and body, and, best of all, the design of the lamp itself suggests that the user interact with it- with grip-friendly counterweights and a lovely soft-touch exterior. The price is friendly, too, with a $350-$395 retail for the small and large lights, respectively.
