The Ginger Margarita from Jean-Georges
This was a big hit at the Grand Tasting by Bon Appetit this past weekend….
Ginger Lime Base
1 c.peeled and sliced ginger
1 c. fresh squeezed lime juice
1 c. sugar
Bring all ingredients to a boil, let simmer for 2 minutes, allow to cool and then puree in a blender. Strain and reserveliquid.
To Serve
1 part ginger powder
2 part kosher salt
1 lime wedge
Fresh lime juice
1 ½ oz. Sauza Tres Anejo
½ oz. Cointreau
¾ oz. Ginger lime base
Mix salt and ginger powder for dusting rim. Fill shaker with ice then tequila, cointreau and ginger lime base with a splash of fresh lime juice and pour into glass. Garnish with a lime wedge.
