  • A Max Minute: Tivoli Village Opens in Las Vegas

the obelisk

April 28th was a big day in northwest Las Vegas, as the long awaited Tivoli Village, a 700 mil shopping and dining retail complex opened on schedule. Some reports put the figure even higher, as high as 850 mil.

The project is the first of its kind in the Vegas Valley since Town Square opened in 2007, and possibly the last for many, many moons. The funding behind the mall comes from an international development company called IDB, short for Israel Discount Bank. A number of IDB execs joined Mayor Goodman, Ward 2 City Councilman Steve Wolfson, and other mucky-mucks for the 10 am ribbon cutting.

The complex is impressive. As you walk in, there is a huge obelisk, and a watchtower comes into view, fronted by a medieval clock tower that looks like it was lifted from Vaclavski Namesti, the famous square in Prague, the Czech Republic. The design and architecture is beautiful as well as colorful. 26 tons of bronze went into the bells that ring often at the mall.

I took a gander around with an eye toward dining after all the blather.

Brio Restaurant

The anchor restaurant at the Village is Brio Tuscan Grill, a popular chain already open at Town Square. Food at Brio is pleasant, generic, and slightly commercial.

petra entrance

Petra, A Greek Taverna, is a room that has deliberately avoided the usual blue and white décor most mall Greek restaurants rely on. They’ll serve homey dishes such as keftedes, a pan fried Greek meat cake.

Later this summer, Ray Nisi, who owns the Double Helix wine bars both at Palazzo and Town Square, will open Bottles and Burgers, a new concept burger bar. There is also a pleasant outdoor café called Leone Café, and a fitness facility, Ritual Salon and Spa, to complement the mostly stand alone and original shopping tenants.

Tivoli Village is located at the corners of Rampart and Alta. For more info, visit their Website, www.tivolivillagelv.com
