A Max Minute: Bottles and Burgers Opens at Tivoli Village

Tivoli Village just received a shot in the arm with the opening of Ray Nisi’s Bottles and Burgers by Double Helix. The concept here is simple: Wines by the glass, well crafted, imaginative burgers, share plates and both a soda fountain for kids and a bar for adults.

This is a large, breezy space measuring in the neighborhood of 6,000 sq. ft., including the outdoor patio, which is much too cold for seating at the moment. The chef is Doug Vega, who does the food at the other Double Helix wine bars, and he’s tricked up the menu here with salads, truffled arancini and a gaudy lobster roll to go along with the burgers.

Double Helix Burger

The Double Helix is a baseball sized gob of meat stuffed with pork belly on a chewy bun, helped along by braised short rib, horseradish and tomato compote, and you’ll need help to finish one. Fries come in five guises. Try Baltimore, with brown gravy and cheese sauce, maybe the closest thing to a Quebecois poutine you’ll get in northwest Vegas.

Since the place has been designed for families, there are gooey milk shakes at the old fashioned soda fountain, with add-ins like Oreos and sprinkles. At the full service bar, there are wake-up call adult shakes, one of which is made with a Hostess cupcake and Three Olives cake flavored vodka. Jeepers!

Pear Walnut Salad

One thing I really like about this place is their wall mounted, Internet juke box, which has something like 36,000 songs to choose from. You insert some coins, and then go to a touch screen where you type in the name of an artist or song, until you find the one you like.
